Alex Sserwadda is a third-year BTh student. He is an ordained minister from St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Mityana, Uganda, where has a thriving ministry in the local community. The Ugandan Anglican population is the third-largest in the world. Over the Christmas break, Alex’s ministry included preaching and praying through the night on New Year’s Eve, with thousands of church members from the rural communities who have travelled many kilometres to attend this special service. Such large church gatherings are not unusual in this country. Alex was blessed by his sponsoring church, Christ Church Anglican New York City, to visit them in January this year to grow the relationship between GWC and the church. Here he shares some of his experiences from his visit.
“I thank God for being given the opportunity to visit my bursary sponsor in New York, Christ Church Anglican NYC, in January and am amazed at the kindness shown to me by the brethren in taking care of me as their guest. They kindly provided me with everything I needed. I was shown places of interest and had dinner with a different family every day. It was encouraging to hear their testimonies, and it was a blessing to meet the Church’s leadership, headed by Rev. Keith Paulus.
The church hosted a Sunday, post-church missions lunch, where I gave a presentation on gospel ministries in Africa. I spoke of how Christianity is thriving in Africa but is challenged by Church leaders who are inadequately trained to teach, preach and nurture God’s people. I was able to thank my sponsors, in person, for their generous contribution towards student bursaries at GWC and testify as to how my studies at GWC have prepared and equipped me for ministry. I pray that GWC’s partnership with Christ Church, New York continues to thrive” (Alex Sserwadda).
We invite your church to join The 100 Club and help GWC train the future leaders of the church in Africa.
