The Comrades Marathon (90km) is widely recognised as the world’s oldest and largest ultramarathon. It was first run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in 1921 to remember the comrades who died in World War 1.
2021 is the Comrades Centenary but it cannot be run due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A virtual run of varying distances will be run around the world on 13 June instead.
As a past Comrades runner, John Child, George Whitefield College lecturer 1997-2020, is participating in the Comrades Centenary by race walking 45km along the Cape Town Atlantic seaboard with GWC students walking or running with him for 5 or 10km.
If you would like to join John on this walk, please email him here: jchild@gwc.ac.za
This is a privately organised event by John who’s aim is to raise a R100 000 for bursaries to equip students from Africa to study the GWC BTh so that they can reach Africa with the Gospel.
