GWC welcomed Old Testament scholar, Dr John Walton, for a week in August this year. Both our undergraduates and postgraduates were stimulated to think in new ways about how we can escape our own cultural assumptions and read the Bible the way an ancient Israelite might have read it. But Dr Walton didn’t leave us in the Old Testament. There was a real buzz around the college as, for several days afterwards, we thought together about what that means for the way we read the Bible today. Dr Walton presented a Special Seminar to the public on how Christians relate to the Old Testament law, and a Research Seminar to the postgraduates on the first few chapters of Genesis.
